The Embroideresses Festival is one of Brittany's major traditional gatherings.
In 1995, it was awarded 'The Great Prize in preservation of Art (Culture)'. Since
its creation in 1954, this festival has kept on growing and innovating. Nowadays
numerous prestigious traditional dance groups come from all over Brittany and
other nations. During this 55th Embroideresses Festival, celebrations, music and
dance shows will take place in Pont-L'Abbé Street from Thursday 10th to
Sunday 13th July. Time schedule: Thursday 10th July: The
sound and light creation from traditional Celtic dance group "Eostiged ar
Stangala" from "Quimper" will present you more than 70 dancers
in traditional clothes for a very traditional and innovative show entitled "breizh
Side Storiou". Before this creation, a concert from the group "Ozan
Trio" will take place. This is a meeting between voices, Celtic and classic
instruments that will offer to you a discovery from Britany. Friday 11th
July: Concert from Dominique Molard, Yvon Molard, Ollivier Leroy, Stéphane
Sotin and Jacques Moreau. The idea of this group was to keep the traditional melodies
and give them new rhythms. A very dynamic show! Before this one, the Embroideresses
Festival has decided to congratulate the Celtic groups "Ar Vro Vigoudenn"
(Brittany's champion for traditional dance in 2007) and "Cap Caval"
(First place in the traditional music contest in 2008). These two groups will
present you a selection of their best creations. You will discover traditional
clothes, dance and music around a very impressive show. Saturday 12th
July: The party will take place all over town with a children's march,
a ''gavotte'' dance contest, a presentation of traditional jobs and acquired skills
A big firework displayed over the lake will close the evening. Full day free Sunday
13th July: This important day of the festival will begin with a church
mass in ''Breton'' (the official language in Brittany before French) in the Church
of ''Carmes'', and then a parade will go through the streets. During the afternoon,
dance and music groups will be on stage until the election of the new ''Queen
of the Embroideresses''. Afterward, traditional musicians will play for The New
Queen. A large ''Fest-Noz'' (traditional ball) lead by the ''Sonerien Du'' will
take place in the church square. For more information do not hesitate to
